Authorities investigating NBC's David Gregory for gun law violation

Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirmed that the department is looking into allegations that NBC's David Gregory violated D.C.'s gun laws when he waved a 30-roundmagazine on Sunday's "Meet the Press,"Breitbart reported Tuesday.
"Yes, we are investigating the incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real," Chief Lanier told Breitbart.
According to D.C. law, any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition is considered a "large capacity" magazine and is illegal in the district.
Since "Meet the Press" is taped in Washington, D.C., Gregory appears to have violated D.C. official code 7-2506.01.
"No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition," the code reads.
Those violating the law can be sentenced to a "maximum fine of $1000 and/or up to a year imprisonment," the code says.
In addition to possibly violating the law, Gregory exhibited a bit of hypocrisy when he scoffed at the idea of placing armed police at America's schools.
"But," Daniel Halper wrote at the Weekly Standard, "the NBC host seems to have no problem with armed guards protecting his kids everyday where they attend school in Washington, D.C."
The implication is clear: Freedom and security for me, but not for thee.
Since the tragic Newtown shootings, propagandists in the Democrat-media complex have engaged in an all-out campaign to persuade Americans that the Second Amendment is no longer necessary. The result is another political battle pitting liberals and the media against freedom-loving Americans and the Constitution.

Deport British Citizen Piers Morgan for Attacking 2nd Amendment

British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.

Today, the same elite media who no doubt send their own kids to private schools that employ armed security, just can't stop howling ridicule at the NRA's idea to give every student in America those same protections. Because the NRA's idea is so appealing, as I write this, the media's going overboard, mocking it as bizarre, crazy, and out of touch.

This is how the media works to silence and vilify the opposition and to ensure that only their ideas control The Narrative. The media doesn't care about securing our schools; they only care about coming after our guns and handing Obama another political win.
The media also doesn’t care how wildly hypocritical they look.
In their zeal to rampage this left-wing agenda, the media has apparently forgotten that back in 2000, on the one-year anniversary of the Columbine shooting (which occurred with an assault weapons ban in place), President Clinton requested $60 million in federal money to fund a fifth round of funding for a program called "COPS in School," a program that does exactly what the NRA is proposing and the media is currently in overdrive mocking:

Clinton also unveiled the $60-million fifth round of funding for "COPS in School," a Justice Department program that helps pay the costs of placing police officers in schools to help make them safer for students and teachers. The money will be used to provide 452 officers in schools in more than 220 communities.
"Already, it has placed 2,200 officers in more than 1,000 communities across our nation, where they are heightening school safety as well as coaching sports and acting as mentors and mediators for kids in need," Clinton said.
The media is not only so driven to ensure Sandy Hook is used to win this round on gun control that they've become morally blinded to what really needs to be done to immediately secure our schools; they've lost their grip historically and politically.
Think about it: The media is entering a new year attempting to convince parents that their children will be less safe with a policeman in their school.
Off the rails doesn’t even begin to describe it.

We already have over 28k on "We the People" White House Petition site requesting Piers Morgan be deported after he ranting and raving about Americans 2nd Amendment rights.

Wall Street Journal columnist explains on Twitter how to deport Piers Morgan

Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto Saturday night joined in the chorus of American voices suggesting that British-born CNN host Piers Morgan could legally be deported from this country for his televised attacks on the Second Amendment, and pointed out the legal precedent that leaves Morgan vulnerable to deportation.
Morgan began the dispute when he complained on Twitter Saturday about a petition on the White House’s “We the People” Web page that asks the government to deport him.
“British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights,” the drafters of the petition wrote in their introductory statement.
The petition has already netted more than 13,000 signatures one day after its launch, putting it well on pace to reach its goal of 25,000. That’s the threshold at which the Obama administration has promised to respond to online petitions submitted on the White House website, provided they reach that number in 30 days.
“Ironic U.S. gun rights campaign to deport me for ‘attacking 2nd Amendment rights’ – is my opinion not protected under 1st Amendment rights?,” Morgan tweeted.
“Your opinion is protected, your presence in the U.S. is not. See Kleindienst v. Mandel (1972),” Taranto replied to Morgan.
Taranto linked to transcripts from a 1972 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the U.S. Attorney General’s refusal to allow a foreign journalist into the United States did not violate the First Amendment. The case resulted from Nixon administration attorney general Richard Kleindienst’s refusal to grant a temporary nonimmigrant visa to Marxist Belgian journalist Ernest Mandel.
Taranto’s tweet was praised by Twitter users who would like to send Morgan back to his native land.
“I knew there was a reason I’ve liked you for years,” tweeter Lee Dodson said to Taranto. “Excellent shot across this silly Brit’s bow. Well done.”
Morgan has been using his CNN talk show to blast gun-rights advocates in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in Connecticut on Dec. 14.
“There are nearly 12,000 murders a year from guns in this country. When are you guys [Second Amendment supporters] going to focus on that and stop telling me the answer is more guns. It is not the answer! How many more kids have to die before you guys say, ‘We want less guns, not more,’” Morgan said on the air December 14. (RELATED BLOG POST: Does Piers Morgan’s bodyguard carry a gun?)
Morgan is the host of CNN’s low-rated talk show “Piers Morgan Tonight,” occupying the slot once held by American citizen Larry King. He was previously the editor of multiple British tabloids, including the News of the World, which ended its run in 2011 amid allegations of phone hacking.
MSNBC host Martin Bashir, another left-leaning British journalist who hosts an American TV show, did not immediately weigh in on Taranto’s tweet.

Debunking Some Popular Media Myths on Guns

The press is engaged in a furious feeding frenzy in the wake of the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. And talk show hosts like Piers Morgan have resorted to insulting their guests when they can’t counter their arguments. You’ll need to watch Morgan’s debate with GOA’s Executive Director to believe it.
Time and again, the “old guard” media is demonstrating that it can’t shoot straight when it comes to reporting the news and is guilty of peddling several worn-out myths.
Myth #1: Banning so-called “assault weapons” will make people safer.
Connecticut's strict “assault weapons” ban did NOT stop the Newtown tragedy from occurring. In fact, the Brady Campaign says that Connecticut has the fifth toughest gun laws in the country. They have a myriad of gun restrictions -- including a ban on guns in schools and a semi-automatic ban (which is much stricter than the Clinton “assault weapons” ban ever was) -- and all of these laws were broken by the shooter in Newtown.
Not only that, the Columbine massacre in 1999 happened while the federal semi-automatic ban was in place. To wit, the Clinton gun ban did not stop the Columbine killers from getting their hands on semi-automatic “assault weapons.”
Even a study conducted by the Clinton Justice Department concluded that the semi-auto ban did nothing to reduce crime or shootings. The Justice Department stated, “The ban has failed to reduce the average number of victims per gun-murder incident or multiple-gunshot wound victims.” (National Institute of Justice, “Impacts of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban,” 1999.)
Licensing or banning guns is not going to stop bad guys from getting their hands on these “assault weapons” -- which are really a misnomer, as they are not used by any military on the earth. They are SEMI-automatics (not machine guns) and, functionally, they fire the exact same way as any deer rifle.
journalists-firearms.jpg
Myth #2: The U.S. is so dangerous because we have millions of guns in circulation.
No, America is dangerous to the extent that we have created thousands of gun free zones where criminals can work in safety. Former FBI profiler, Clint Van Zandt, reported on NBC News recently that potential mass murderers seek out venues where there is no law enforcement officer and where they know no one is armed.
That’s why we don’t see armed thugs, who are intent on committing evil, trying to shoot up a police station where their victims are armed. Rather, they target locations like the Oregon mall (this December) or the theater in Aurora, Colorado (in 2012) or Virginia Tech (in 2007) or Columbine (in 1999) -- all places where guns were illegal, even for law-abiding citizens.
The last thing we need to do is create more targets of opportunity for disaffected young men.
Myth #3: Gun control in foreign countries has stopped gun massacres from occurring.
Actually, what gun control does is lull people into thinking that we have made people safer when we haven’t. Dunblane, Scotland suffered through a school-yard massacre in 1996, even though the country had much stricter gun control than we have today. Norway experienced its own horrendous massacre last year where 69 kids were shot and killed in one event, even though their laws are also stricter than ours.
By contrast, foreign countries have stopped school-related violence, not by banning guns, but by arming teachers. The nation of Israel -- after more than 20 children were murdered by Muslim terrorists during the Ma’alot massacre in 1974 -- has solved their school-related violence problem by allowing armed teachers to protect students. Thailand has pursued the same approach, as well.
There are also examples of how good people successfully use guns in this country to stop potential massacres. Consider Assistant Principal Joel Myrick at the High School in Pearl, Mississippi (in 1997) or Jeanne Assam at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs (in 2007).
Both Myrick and Assam stopped their attackers before the police could arrive and without injuring one innocent person.
Myth #4: No American needs a magazine holding 30 rounds of ammunition.
Banning high capacity magazines will not keep criminals from getting them, any more than DC’s gun ban prevented criminals from getting guns. And keeping them from honest citizens will only make them less safe.
Just consider the Korean merchants who armed themselves with so-called “assault” weapons (and lots of ammunition) during the Los Angeles riots. Dozens of people were killed during the riots -- and hundreds more saw their homes and businesses looted. But the Koreans’ stores remained standing, while others around them burned to the ground.
The nation also witnessed law-abiding civilians who had to defend themselves from roving gangs after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. When you are facing gang or mob violence -- and the police are nowhere to be found -- you need more than just a six-shooter.
The press should stop pushing for restrictions upon the rights of decent Americans, because guns in good people’s hands save lives.

Putting Gun Violence into Proper Perspective

The horrible and tragic school shooting incident in Newtown, Connecticut prompts some to advocate for even tighter gun restrictions. As a common-sense individual, I'm in favor of equally common-sense and balanced safeguards as long as they do not punish law-abiding citizens who are within their Constitutional rights to "keep and bear arms."
United States Constitution:  AMENDMENT II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
As a data nerd, I have some basic questions.  No doubt, tragic events like the Newtown shooting are sensational and garner much deserved media attention.  However, is gun violence a leading cause of death among Americans?

Let's examine actual data courtesy of the United States Census Bureau.  Table 121. Deaths by Age and Selected Causes categorizes causes of death in the United States for 2007, the most recent year where side-by-side data is available.  Low on the page, the table shows the number of murders (homicides) caused by a discharge of firearms.  The total number of people killed by firearms nationally in 2007 was 12,632.

Each death is indeed a tragedy and some deaths might have been prevented.  Are MORE gun laws the answer?  How many EXISTING local, state, and federal firearms laws did the Newton shooter violate?  Did these existing gun laws ACTUALLY make the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary any safer?  Were they enforced?

Additionally, how many lives were SAVED thanks to firearms?  That's a much harder number to qualify.  Where I live, our excellent police protection is likely a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes away after making a call.    I have a weapon for home protection and both my wife and I know how to use it.  Thankfully, we've never needed to use it, much like the fire extinguisher in our kitchen or our earthquake preparation kit.

Let's put the risk of being murdered by firearms into proper perspective.  Moving up the page a bit, see that simple falls kill nearly twice as many people as do murderers using firearms.  Is the solution to ban gravity?  No, but there are common-sense solutions to reduce the risk.  As proven in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, simply banning guns will not by itself reduce gun violence.

Deaths from other causes are far more preventable than murders by firearms or people killed by gravity. For example, move near the top of the page.  HIV kills nearly as many people in the United States as gun violence.  A major cause of HIV is unprotected sex.  Perhaps the solution is for Congress to pass a new federal law REQUIRING condoms when engaging in certain acts.  "Preposterous!" will claim many civil libertarians.  Yet, there is no explicit Constitutional guarantee safeguarding someone's right to unprotected sex.  However, there is an explicit Constitutional protection to keep and bears arms, written in the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution.

I agree that we should act to curb violence, especially against the innocent.  But again, let's put gun violence into perspective.  Another almost-entirely preventable action takes nearly 100 TIMES MORE INNOCENT LIVES than firearm violence.  Likely for political reasons, the United States Census Bureau does not list it along with the other causes of death.  These deaths are tracked separately in Table 102. Abortions by Selected Characteristics: 1990 to 2007.  In 2007, there were 1,210 x 1,000 abortions performed in the United States, equal to 1,210,000 or 1.21 MILLION.  This is 95 times higher than the total number of people killed by firearms that same year--including adults and children.  This is also roughly the number of Jews murdered by the Nazis at the Auschwitz death camp during all its years of operation.  This also roughly equates to the entire population of Dallas, Texas--America's 9th largest city.  Most of these deaths are also entirely preventable. However, even the simplest proposed restrictions against abortion are met with protest and outrage despite clear mentions of government protections for life in the Declaration of Independence and in the 14th Amendment.

We should work to prevent deaths when we can do so intelligently and without violating the Constitution rights of those who are breaking no laws.
